RECOVERY COACHING

What is a Recovery Coach?

A Recovery Coach is a trained professional, who uses their lived experience (either from their personal addiction recovery or the Recovery Coach has lived experience in supporting a family/loved one, also known as a recovery ally, and identifies and connects with the peer in a non-judgmental and meets you where you are at, with no expectations. This is Peer to Peer support. The peer recovery model is person driven, meaning you are the expert of your recovery, this is whatever pathway you choose, it’s your own personal recovery.

Your Recovery Coach can support you in finding your pathway, and there is no wrong way to recovery. We support Harm Reduction, remove barriers, advocacy, connection to the recovery community and we are your biggest cheerleader! We look forwards not backwards. You don’t have to do this alone, we are here to support you, every step you take, doesn’t matter what path you take in moving forward and your recovery goals, it’s how we can support you to get there!

Recovery coaching is a type of support that focuses on helping individuals with addictions or those in the process of recovering from substance use, alcoholism, codependency, or other harmful behaviors. Different approaches exist, including programs led by people who have gone through similar experiences or those with training in providing assistance. The main goal is reducing the negative consequences of their addictive behaviors. Recovery coaches can assist in finding resources such as detox, treatment, family support, and local or online support groups. They might also help devise plans for change to recover independently.

What Does a Recovery Coach Do?

It’s important to note that recovery coaches are not primary addiction treatment providers. They don’t diagnose issues, and they are not tied to any specific recovery method. They encourage positive changes and support individuals returning from treatment to help prevent relapse. Recovery Coaches help people to build a supportive community, and work towards non-addiction-related life goals like relationships, work, or education. Unlike traditional therapy, recovery coaching is action-focused and doesn’t delve into the past, trauma healing, or intense emotional exploration. Recovery coaches are distinct from licensed addiction counselors as they are not clinical professionals and don’t diagnose or treat addiction or mental health disorders.

Recovery coaches assist the people they work with to establish a strong foundation for their recovery by providing resources and guidance. A recovery coach is not a sponsor. They offer unbiased, judgement-free support and assist people who may be struggling to build on this foundation to accomplish additional life goals that enhance the value of their recovery experience.
