What is Narcan?

Narcan, or Naloxone, is an opioid overdose reversal drug which can be administered by anyone. Narcan has saved countless lives and is an integral part of a comprehensive approach to the opioid epidemic.

In Massachusetts (and most other states), pharmacies such as Rite Aid, Walgreens, and CVS have standing pharmacy orders to provide Narcan without a prescription. Pharmacies charge a regular prescription co-payment for two 4mg doses (one box) of Narcan.

In the Worcester area, individuals in need of Narcan can also visit Aids Project Worcester (APW)  at 85 Green Street, Worcester during normal business hours to obtain free Narcan doses.

APW’s phone number is 508-755-3773.
